Privacy

We don't have servers.

That's the short version. Auris stores no audio and no transcripts on our infrastructure, because we don't run any for those things.
Here's exactly how the architecture works.

Flow · 001

What happens when you dictate.

01 · You

Hold the hotkey.

Your microphone, your machine. Audio captured locally.

02 · Transcribe

Auris transcribes.

Speech-to-text runs locally by default. Pick cloud STT and audio routes directly to Groq. Either way, never to us.

03 · Polish

Your provider.

Transcript goes to your API key (or your local model) for polish. Auris never sees it.

04 · Cursor

Clean text lands.

Polished result pastes at your cursor.
No round trip through us.

Setup · 002

Your speech goes one of two places.

Pick one when you set Auris up. Switch any time. Both work the same from your side. The difference is whether anything touches a network.
Cloud · your own account

Through your API key.

The polish step runs through your account at OpenAI, Anthropic, or Groq. Your transcript goes from your machine to the provider you chose, then back.

Auris never sees it. The provider's privacy policy applies to that hop.

Cost · most people pay $2 to $5/month
Local · no internet needed

On your machine.

The polish step runs locally through Ollama, LM Studio, or any compatible local server. Nothing leaves your computer.

No API calls. No network. Works on a plane.

Cost · $0 in API fees
Storage · 003

What lives where.

Three places data could live.
Two of them store almost nothing. The third stores nothing at all.
01 · On your machine

What stays with you.

  • Dictation history
  • Custom rules
  • Dictionary additions
  • Snippets & settings

All as files on your machine. Delete any of it whenever.

02 · On Auris's side

What we keep.

  • Your email
  • Your license key

That's what we need to send you the license and let you know when there's a meaningful update. Unsubscribe any time with one click. Not shared with anyone.

03 · Nowhere

What no one keeps.

  • Your audio
  • Your transcripts
  • Your edits
  • Your vocabulary

No copy. No backup. No analytics.

Sensitive · 004

Sensitive content stays out of your history.

Auris ships with four built-in patterns. When you dictate something that matches, the value lands in the app you're typing in, but doesn't get saved to your transcript history.
Email

Anything matching an email pattern.
Never saved to your transcript history.

Phone

US and international phone numbers. Lands in the app, never in history.

SSN

Social Security Numbers.
Used in the moment, not stored.

Credit card

16-digit card numbers, all major schemes. Typed once, gone after.

Add your own patterns with regex for company-specific things: employee IDs, internal project codes, anything else you want kept out of saved transcripts.

License · 005

What you own.

01 · Yours

Now and forever.

Your license is yours, now and forever. There's no server-side check that can turn it off, because there is no server.

02 · Updates

Future updates.

Anyone who buys Auris gets access to all future updates. No version cliffs, no upgrade fees.

FAQ · 006

The questions, answered.

N.01

Do you sell or share data with anyone?

No. We don't have audio or transcript data to sell, and the email we hold for licensing isn't shared.

N.02

Where is my email stored?

In our customer database (Stripe for billing, a standard email provider for product updates).
Request deletion any time at hello@auris.talk.

N.03

Is Auris GDPR-compliant?

The architecture makes most of GDPR easy. We don't process audio. We don't store transcripts. The data we do hold (email, license key) is subject to standard subject-access and deletion requests.
Email hello@auris.talk to request either.

N.04

Can I see what's in my local history file?

Yes. Use the in-app History tab to view, edit, or delete entries.

N.05

What about telemetry or crash reports?

No automatic crash reports. Internal diagnostics live in Settings → Diagnostics. Review them on your machine, send them to us manually if you'd like our help. Never sent without your action.
